When the desert takes over
About one hour east of Dubai, lies an abandonned village outside the town of Al Madam. Once the home of part of the Al Kutbi tribe in the 1970’s, the village which consists of two rows of virtually identical houses and a mosque at the far end, is now largely buried in sand. As a travel and documentary photographer, places like this intrigue me. It is a bit of a mystery why the inhabitants left. Some say that the village was haunted others that the desert just claimed it back. Whatever it is, we don’t always need to have all answers in our photography.
