The village that always sleeps, Jazirat Al Hamra
Jazirat Al Hamra (Red Island) is a coastal village in the Northern emirate Ras Al Khaimah (UAE), believed to be occupied since 16th century and abandoned almost 40 years ago before the discovery of oil and gas in the region.
The villagers who lived here, were mainly into fishing and pearl trading. The reasons why people left the village in the 70's vary. Some say the ruler forced them to move, others believe they just left for more comfortable homes. Some will even tell you the village is haunted… a real ghost town?
